Discussion: Bolstering a predictable AI regulatory framework - how could we all be winners?

On the 29th May, we discussed the topic of AI regulations and its implications for startups and SMEs with the international community of startup associations, policymakers, AI experts, startups and big companies on the sidelines of the GLOBSEC 2023 Bratislava Forum.

The impact of AI is already felt in the way we do shopping, consume media or search for information. However, AI represents much more than just transformational technology. It will impact and even disrupt the way we live and organize our societies. The crucial challenge here is the appropriate design and distribution of AI systems - how to ensure privacy, accountability, security, transparency, non-discrimination and human-centricity and how to ensure that benefits of AI are evenly distributed and don’t create a privileged superclass with economic and political dominance thanks to ownership of algorithms, access to platforms and data. All of these challenges shall be addressed by appropriate regulations balancing the benefits and the risks of widespread AI adoption, always having human values in mind. The standards for using AI in compliance with all EU regulations and standards are key topics for decision makers and the business community, especially when it comes to the AI Act and it is also important to include participation of business and civil society into these discussions in order to set up more effective regulation.

We will be closely watching the development of the AI Act further and bring this topic closer to the community of our members and beyond.
