SAPIE and other organizations, associations and communities from EU have signed a joint statement targeting the anticipated regulation of AI in EU. The statement is addressed to the Members of the European Parliament, Ambassadors to the EU, Heads of Representation to the European Commission and Members of the national governments.

The document aspires to ensure the AI Act (AIA) becomes more proportionate and balanced, so that startups and SMEs can develop and scale-up their innovations to businesses and consumers across the EU. Its suggestions for improvement are built around results from survey which supposes that if the AIA was approved in its unchanged form, startups and companies developing AI across Europe would face challenges in the form of 20% increase of expenses, shrinking of VC funding for AI startups and decreasing investor attractiveness. What is more, it would to less disruptive innovation.

The joint statement therefore focuses on 4 main principles would boost the innovation potential of European players: high-risk AI systems clarifications, general purpose AI and Generative AI systems, implement feasible requirements, facilitate all relevant stakeholders’ involvement.
